The edition we hold runs Sunday October 18 to Saturday October 24, 2026, and has two pages.
A 2026 guide says standard hours are roughly 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and some locations stay open 24 hours. Check your own store.
A third-party summary lists 30 days with a receipt and excludes prescriptions and gift cards. Walgreens' own page was not available to us, so confirm in store.
Membership is free. Third-party guides describe Walgreens Cash earned on eligible purchases, usable as store credit but not on prescriptions.
Per Wikipedia, Sycamore Partners took Walgreens private, with the acquisition reported complete on August 28, 2025.
Wikipedia says the company announced in June 2024 that it would close a significant portion of its US stores within three years.
Quick one first. The Walgreens flyer we hold, Walgreens Weekly Ad (10/18 - 10/24 2026), is just two pages long. It starts on Sunday, October 18 and ends Saturday, October 24. Drugstore ads are short because the real action happens in the app and at the shelf-tag level, but a two-pager is still a handy snapshot of what the store is pushing: snacks, household basics, health and beauty, seasonal items. For other drugstore comparisons, jump to the health and beauty weekly ads hub or the US weekly ads hub.
Walgreens is a drugstore chain headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois. Charles Walgreen opened the first shop in Chicago in 1901, per Wikipedia. The company merged with Alliance Boots in 2014, and the private equity firm Sycamore Partners took it private, with the deal reported complete on August 28, 2025. Wikipedia counts about 8,000 US stores in 2026, roughly 9 million customers a day and about 211,000 employees. Pharmacy is the core, with a photo center and drive-through pharmacy windows at many locations, plus a store-brand grocery line called Nice!.
One thing locals notice: the chain has been shrinking. In 2024 it said it would close a significant portion of its US stores within three years. If your old corner Walgreens vanished, that's the context. Rival CVS Pharmacy weekly ad is the obvious comparison.
Membership in the myWalgreens program is free. Third-party guides say members earn Walgreens Cash on eligible purchases, advertised at 1 percent storewide and 5 percent on Walgreens-brand items, with exclusions. Walgreens Cash is store credit, not real cash, and the guides say it can't pay for prescriptions or other pharmacy items. A 2023 press release, as summarized in search results, put limits at 50 dollars per transaction and 100 dollars per day. Terms change, so use the numbers in your account, not an old blog post.
Searches like "Walgreens return policy without receipt" and "over 30 days" tell you people are worried about the receipt. The only summary we found is a third-party review site that lists a 30-day window with no restocking fee, with final-sale categories such as prescriptions and gift cards. Walgreens' own page wasn't available to us. Bring the receipt and ID, and ask a manager about cosmetics or opened items.
The big question is whether Walgreens is open 24 hours. A 2026 guide says standard hours run roughly 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., some stores stay open around the clock, and pharmacy hours are often shorter than store hours, sometimes with a lunch closure. The same guide says hours and services vary more than they used to. For holidays, Walgreens rarely closes completely, but hours can be shorter on Christmas Day and pharmacy service may be limited. We couldn't verify Thanksgiving 2026 hours from an official page. Check your location the day before, and treat pharmacy and photo counters as separate clocks.
Google Suggest shows the same errands again and again: money orders, stamps, passport photos, printing, cash back, EBT, prescription delivery. We could not verify those from an official source this session, so we won't promise any of them. Services differ by store, so a quick call saves a wasted trip. Photo prints and posters are a regular search, and coupons for them circulate often, but we saw no official terms.
If the pharmacy is why you're here, one fact from Wikipedia is worth knowing. The company has used robot-based micro-fulfillment centers for filling prescriptions, a setup it expanded in 2025, so some orders are prepared away from your local counter. That's good to remember when you ask a pharmacist how long a refill will take. Tell the pharmacist which store you prefer and ask about drive-through windows, since many locations have one. Wikipedia also records that in June 2023 the company announced it would close 150 US locations, and in 2024 it pointed to about 2,150 underperforming stores. If your usual branch has closed, transferring prescriptions to a nearby location is a common next step, and the pharmacy staff can walk you through it.
Wikipedia notes the 1946 purchase of Mexico's Sanborns chain, the 2010 acquisition of Duane Reade and an agreement to buy Rite Aid stores, approved by the FTC in 2017. If beauty is the reason you stopped by, take a look at the Ulta Beauty weekly ad afterwards.
