Wikipedia calls PEP a budget retailer based in Cape Town, with clothing as its main category and the largest clothing factory in Southern Africa. It says the business grew from a part-time bargain shop in Upington in 1955 into a chain with PEP Stores Ltd launched in 1965. By the early 1980s it had around 500 stores. The page puts the present footprint at about 1,800 stores in 11 Southern African countries, although the count includes more than South Africa. PEP is a subsidiary of Pepkor, which was sold by Christo Wiese to Steinhoff in 2014 and listed on the JSE in 2017, according to Wikipedia's Pepkor entry. Pepkor also owns Ackermans, Shoe City, Tekkie Town, Dunns, Bradlows and others, and reported 95 new PEP and 45 new PEP Home stores in its 2025 financial year.

The official PEP online shop is organised by category: women, men, baby, kids, tweens, school, beauty and home, with cellular, money and PAXI sections on top. Under Money it lists a PEP Account, money transfers, funeral cover, loans, vouchers and tokens. Lay-by, PAXI and delivery

• Lay-by: the site has pages for lay-by and a Lay-by Buddy, so lay-by is a live option, but we could not read the terms.
• PAXI: the site advertises over 2,700 collection points across South Africa for parcels and bags.
• Delivery: free on orders over R600, plus delivery to your address.
• Returns: the site promises convenient returns at any PEP store.

For questions such as "does pep stores have a courier service", this is the verified part: PAXI and address delivery appear on the official site. Fees beyond the R600 free-delivery threshold are not shown on the home page.

PEP return policy without a receipt

This is the most worrying search for shoppers. A 2021 report in The Herald quoted Pepkor saying that a valid receipt or proof of purchase is required for a return or refund, that items can go back to any open, operational store of the brand, and that the refund may be cash, credit or voucher depending on the brand's policy. The same article notes that under the Consumer Protection Act, faulty goods can be returned for a refund. That was written in 2021, so check the current terms in store before you queue with a bag of clothes.

The +more card across the Pepkor family

Pepkor runs a group rewards scheme called +more. A sponsored Stuff article from April 2024 lists PEP, Ackermans, Shoe City, Dunns, Tekkie Town, Bradlows, HiFiCorp, Incredible and other group names, and says you can join through the app, a website, USSD, WhatsApp or in store, then show your number in store for instant savings. PEP opening hours on Sundays and public holidays

"pep stores opening hours sunday" and "pep stores trading hours public holidays" are heavily searched. We found no official hours table. South Africa has no single national trading-hours law, and hours come from municipal bylaws and mall leases, so the store finder and the mall's own page are the answer for your branch. A Sunday close that looks early is usually the mall's rule, not PEP's.
