A hub that mixes five different kinds of shop

Be warned: this group does not hang together neatly. It has a craft and fabric chain, two liquor retailers, a sports chain and an auto parts specialist. What they share is a catalogue habit. People search for each of them by name plus "catalogue" or "specials this week", and they tend to be weekend or project purchases rather than the weekly shop. Treat the sections below as five separate conversations.

For groceries, use the supermarkets hub. For the full country view, see our New Zealand page.

Hobbies and sport

Spotlight craft and fabric is the craft chain, and the searches are about dates: "spotlight specials nz this week" and "spotlight nz sale dates". Its VIP Club can be joined online, by phone or in store, with a birthday voucher after 30 days, and you need to opt in to email to get vouchers. The Bargain Guarantee gives a reduction on an identical cheaper item, in physical stores only. Change of mind is accepted for 28 days with proof of purchase, with exclusions.

Rebel Sport is run in New Zealand by Briscoe Group, which holds exclusive NZ rights to the name. People search "rebel sport price match nz", "rebel sport price promise nz" and "rebel sport returns policy nz", which shows the questions are about money back, not just what is on special. Consumer NZ describes the price promise as a way to ask for the difference if an item you bought later goes on special, with a receipt or bank statement and a 14-day claim window. It also describes a separate price guarantee against other New Zealand retailers.

Car parts

Repco auto parts is owned by Genuine Parts Company, which bought it on 1 July 2013. The NZBA page of January 2025 lists 84 New Zealand stores and says they are open seven days a week, though Sunday hours vary by branch and restricted trading days apply. The searches are "repco catalogue nz", "when does repco sale end" and "repco rewards nz". The sale-end question is the one worth watching, since a parts promotion usually has a firm closing date printed on the page.

Employment New Zealand notes that shops selling food, drink and essentials, and sometimes petrol, oil and car parts, can qualify for listed exceptions on restricted days, but only for items people cannot wait for. Never assume a branch is open. Ring first.

The two liquor chains

Liquorland bottle shops belong to Foodstuffs (acquired 2009, per Wikipedia) and offer Click & Collect through liquorland.co.nz. Super Liquor stores are independents: the About page says 165 stores and the homepage says 185 or more, so the number depends on where you read it. Super Liquor lists Cashpoints (one cent per point on the promo page), free pickup and nationwide delivery. Defects must be reported in writing within seven days of delivery, though Consumer Guarantees Act rights are not limited, and the buyer must be 18 or over, with ID possible.

The searches are about the mailer itself: "liquorland mailer specials", "super liquor specials this week" and "super liquor opening hours". Wider suggestions include "liquor stores open on easter sunday nz" and "are bottle stores open on good friday in nz".

The alcohol rules that catch people out

The rule change is recent. Since 3 April 2026, on-licences such as bars can serve normally on Anzac Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. Off-licences, the category bottle stores and supermarkets fall under, still cannot sell alcohol on restricted trading days. So on Good Friday a Liquorland or Super Liquor shop stays shut for alcohol, whatever the mailer says. National default hours for off-licences run from 7am to 11pm, but each licence sets its own times, and a local alcohol policy can set different hours.

How to use the catalogues

Timing through the year

Sporting and outdoor ranges rise and fall with the seasons, and Black Friday has become a major retail weekend, so Rebel Sport and Spotlight pages are worth checking in late November. Liquor mailers cluster around long weekends and Christmas. Easter is the awkward stretch, as Good Friday and Easter Sunday both close nearly every shop, with plants and garden supplies the Easter Sunday exception.

If the hobby is home-based, the home and garden hub covers the hardware and garden side. We have not verified every branch's hours, so treat catalogue dates as a guide and confirm locally.
