Frequently asked questions about the Boxer catalogue
How does the Boxer Rewards Club work?
Swipe your card when buying advertised products to earn B Rewards worth R1 each, stored in the Boxer App. The page says the card is not a discount card.
What are the Boxer trading hours on Sunday?
Store hours vary by branch and we could not read them on the official pages. The customer care line is closed on Sunday (Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to 1pm).
Who owns Boxer?
Pick n Pay bought Boxer in 2002 and, according to EWN in October 2025, is the majority owner of the JSE-listed Boxer Retail Limited.
How many Boxer stores are there?
Boxer's history page says 597 stores as of June 2026: 346 Superstores, 219 Liquor Stores and 32 Build Stores, in South Africa and Eswatini.
Is there a Boxer app?
Yes. The official site says it is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store, and B Rewards are stored in it.
What is the Boxer return policy?
We found no returns page. Under the Consumer Protection Act, defective goods can be returned within six months for repair, replacement or refund.
Boxer catalogue: a two-week leaflet, not a weekly one
Boxer is the discount supermarket that most South Africans can find within a taxi ride, and its leaflets run on a fortnightly beat. The latest Boxer Specials edition we hold started on Thursday 8 October and ended on Wednesday 21 October 2026, over 8 pages, with a three-page Boxer Liquors edition for the same dates. Our data does not give a reliable usual weekday for this store, and the retailer does not state one on the pages we read, so watch for the next cover date rather than assuming one. The official website's promotion panel also showed that the prices were valid until 21 October 2026, which matches.
Scroll through the Specials pages and you can see what the store leans on: maize meal, noodles, fat spread, eggs, milk and cake early on, then cool drinks, chips and cookies, then tinned beans, chutney and tomato sauce, with a few appliances, wine and spirits near the back, and toiletries on the last page. Page 1 even carries data, and page 3 a SIM, which tells you airtime and connectivity are part of the offer. If you land here after the 21st, the next edition may already be out, so check the Boxer catalogue this week listing first.
Boxer Rewards Club: how to join, what it gives you
The question behind "boxer app" searches is mostly about rewards. According to the official Rewards Club page, you swipe your Boxer Rewards Club card when you buy advertised products and earn B Rewards, each worth R1, stored in the Boxer App for use on later purchases. You collect the card in store from a Rewards Club ambassador and then register by USSD, WhatsApp or the app. Members are promised weekend competitions, free airtime and early access to promotions.
The page is clear about one thing: the card is not a discount card, and everyday pricing still applies. It does not say how many rewards each product earns, or whether there are caps or expiry dates, so read the three T&C documents it links before you plan around the points. The homepage also mentions Boxer eCoupons, Bulk Online, airtime and data, and a Money Kiosk.
Boxer opening hours, Sunday and public holidays
Hours are the most searched topic: "boxer opening hours on sunday", "when does boxer close on sunday", "boxer trading hours today". The honest position is that store hours depend on the branch and the centre it sits in, and the official pages we opened list only the customer care line, which is open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm, closed on Sunday. That is a call centre schedule, not a store timetable, so please do not read it as the shop hours. Customer care is on 08600 26937. For the branch, use the store details printed in your local leaflet or search by suburb.
Boxer return policy and exchange questions
"Boxer return policy" and "boxer exchange policy" are both suggested, but no returns page was reachable on the sections of the site we opened. The Consumer Protection Act is the reference. FA News, quoting an attorney in 2017, explains that goods which fail the quality standard can be returned within six months for repair, replacement or refund, at the buyer's choice. Change-of-mind returns are up to the store, and food is a special case, so check dates and seals at the shelf. The National Consumer Commission, set up under section 85 of the Act, handles complaints that a shop will not resolve.
Who is Boxer? Pick n Pay, the JSE listing and the numbers
Boxer's own history page says it began in 1977 in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal and calls itself Africa's Favourite Discount Supermarket. It gives its count as 597 stores as of June 2026: 346 Superstores, 219 Liquor Stores and 32 Build Stores, across South Africa and Eswatini, with a 600th store planned for August 2026. Pick n Pay bought the chain in 2002. EWN reported in October 2025 that Boxer Retail Limited is listed on the JSE with Pick n Pay as majority owner, that turnover rose 13.9 per cent to R22.5 billion, and that it had opened 35 new stores in six months.
The three divisions on the site, Superstores, Liquors and Build, explain why one name can send you to a food leaflet, a liquor leaflet or a hardware one. Boxer Liquors has its own edition on AdsSOS, so do not look for it inside the Specials pages.
Where to compare Boxer
Boxer is usually measured against its neighbours in the same discount aisle. Open the Pick n Pay specials this week for the parent group, the Shoprite catalogue and specials or the Super Save specials page for rivals, and the South African supermarket catalogues for the full list. The South Africa catalogues and specials hub has the rest.
