Before you head out: Petsmart flyer dates and how they work

Petsmart in Canada does not follow the tidy seven-day rhythm of a grocery chain. When we checked on 22 October 2026 there were two editions in our listing: a large weekly-style flyer valid from 5 October to 1 November (thirteen pages, so about four weeks) and a three-page Halloween flyer valid from 19 October to 31 October. Our data shows no regular weekday for new editions, and the company publishes no release schedule that we could find, so the validity dates printed on each scan are the thing to trust. Browse both on our Petsmart flyer this week page.

That longer cycle explains why people type "petsmart flyer this week" and "petsmart weekly specials" and still land on something that is a few weeks old. Check the end date before you plan a trip for kibble or litter.

Does Petsmart price match in Canada?

It is one of the most-searched questions about the store, and there is an official answer. The Canadian help page, called the Price Match Promise, says the retailer will match the advertised price on petsmart.ca and, for in-store purchases, competitor prices from direct sellers in pet specialty, grocery, pharmacy and big-box retail, either in person or on their websites. The item has to be identical and in stock, and you need proof of the lower price: a receipt, an ad or other confirmation. The price must be active and valid at the time of the match.

The exclusions are just as important. Marketplaces, auction and reseller sites, price aggregators, outlet and clearance prices, "free with purchase" and buy-one-get-one offers and rebates are not matched, and price matching is not valid on pets or services. The page gives no time limit for requests and no phone number, so talk to a store associate. A flyer from a rival can serve as your proof if the product is the same size and brand.

Treats Rewards: the card-free loyalty programme

Petsmart's loyalty scheme is called Treats Rewards, and searches such as "petsmart rewards program" and "petsmart rewards points" are common. The FAQ on the Canadian site spells out the mechanics:

The app shows your balance, lets you activate offers and scan your Treats Rewards ID at the till. Sign-up is at the pin pad, on petsmart.ca or in the app. When we looked, a promotion offering bonus points on larger baskets was running through 25 October; offers rotate, so read the current terms. A flyer sale price and a points offer are separate things, and returning an item cancels the points it earned.

Returns at Petsmart: the 60-day window

The returns page gives a plain set of rules. Eligible items are accepted within 60 days of purchase, in store or online. Older items need approval and come back as a merchandise card at the latest sale price. Proof of purchase (order confirmation, ID number or packing slip) is expected, and without it you need approval and government photo ID. A receipt is specifically required for items worth $10 or more in groups such as electronics and training gear, grooming tools, filters and pumps, non-prescription medications and vitamins, calming products and flea and tick treatments. Prescription medication and personalized special orders cannot be returned. Online orders can go back by mail with the supplied label or free in store; orders placed in store, picked up in store or delivered by apps such as DoorDash, Instacart or Skip must be returned in store.

The page does not say anything about live animals or opened food, even though those are common searches, so we make no claim on them.

Hours, holidays and what Petsmart actually is

People often ask "is petsmart open on thanksgiving" or about Sunday hours. We found no chain-wide schedule: hours are set by store and shown on each store page. Holiday closures depend on where you live. Ontario's Retail Business Holidays Act lists seven days when retail businesses must close (New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas), but the City of Toronto is exempt, municipalities can opt out and tourist areas have exemptions. We did not verify how each Petsmart location applies the rule, so call before a long weekend.

According to Wikipedia, the company was founded in Phoenix in 1986 and opened its first eight Canadian stores in 1996. BC Partners led a roughly $8.7 billion buyout in 2015. Besides food and supplies, stores are described as offering grooming, dog daycare, boarding and training, with veterinary care provided by third-party clinics, and adoption events run with the nonprofit PetSmart Charities. It is a pet retailer, so on AdsSOS it belongs with auto, sports and leisure retailers rather than the grocers.
